Match Report – Priorians 1sts v CI

Priorians will be hoping to keep the momentum going in the league this weekend when they travel to Knock on the back of 1-0 victory over CI Ladies Hockey Club last Saturday.
A first half Sarah Black goal proved the winner as Priorians once again kept a clean sheet and claimed an excellent win on the road.
For the opening 20 minutes of the game it was pretty openly contested with chances at both ends. Priorians defence showed their strength at the back while under pressure from a half court press. They calmly kept possession, however passing from left to right which created an opening down the right hand side where Rhonda Curry carefully picked her pass to Rachael McSparron.
A great solo run by McSparron provided the opportunity for Black to fire it home on the reverse which put Priorians one up before half time.
CI came out stronger in the second half creating a few close chances putting the away side under pressure. The also defended well against a few penalty corners. Alex Doherty, who was standing in for Lizzie Ballantine, made a great save off the line meaning Priorians are yet to concede this season. The best opportunity for Prior in the second half came from Emma Allen who had a one- to-one encounter with the CI keeper, unfortunately she was denied the glory. Despite CI’s best efforts, Priorians came out on top winning 1-0. Player of the match was centre back, Nicola Lowry.
The girls along with their coach and sponsors O’Neill Master Joiners are keen to keep the momentum going for the first half of the season as they prepare for the difficult trip to Knock this weekend.
TEAM: Alex Dougherty, Nicola Lowry, Rhonda Curry, Kristel Brown, Bronagh McCauley, Coral Lapsley, Alice O’Neill, Grace Hand, Hannah McCollum, Sarah Black, Jill Kennedy, Emma Allen, Rachael McSparron and Demi Harper.
